City of Cape Girardeau Community improvement initiatives: Help your neighborhood grow

How can we as residents bring about a positive and visible change in our city? How can we do more than what is being done?

Change begins in your own front yard

Visible community improvement can begin with simply picking up a single piece of trash—and then another and another. Forming small, neighborhood-based groups throughout the city can take a small-scale clean-up to a large-scale beautification and cleanliness effort.

We are proud of where we live and work and where our children play and we want other residents and visitors to have a positive experience that encourages them to bring their business and families to our community.

Change is only possible with your involvement

Local government might not sound exciting, but the decisions our mayor and city council make have a direct impact on the lives of our residents and the community improvement that is made. Developing a relationship with your representatives is of the utmost importance when we are talking about getting the metaphorical ball rolling.

City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, with the Study Session starting at 5 p.m. and the Regular Session immediately following. Previous sessions can be viewed on YouTube. Everyone is welcome to sit in on these sessions and to voice their concerns.

All citizens are also welcome to apply to citizen advisory boards cityofcape.org/yourgov.

Community improvement is possible only when residents take interest and take action. The City of Cape Girardeau wants to work with you, hear your concerns and consider your ideas as we move forward and create this community’s future.
