Lexington repairs forthcoming this year (and maybe next)! We are switching gears slightly with the street improvement scheduling for the Transportation Trust Fund projects proposed and renewed by voters in 2020 (TTF6). Sprigg Street Improvements from Shawnee Parkway/Route 74 to Southern Expressway were originally slated to be constructed in the 2023 construction season, with carry-over work potentially into the 2024 construction season, as is typical for the larger roadway improvements. Lexington Avenue from Carolina Lane to Sherwood Drive and Lexington Avenue from West Cape Rock Drive to Sprigg Street, were planned for the 2024 construction season and Bertling Street from Perryville Road to Big Bend Road was planned for the 2025 Construction season to complete the TTF6 major roadway improvements. Due to noticeable deterioration of Lexington Avenue over the 2022-23 winter season, along with numerous citizen complaints, the City staff has decided to swap the 2023 Sprigg Street project with the 2024 Lexington Street Improvements. Lexington Avenue from Carolina Lane to Sherwood Drive and Lexington Avenue from West Cape Rock Drive to Sprigg Street will now be constructed in 2023, possibly carrying over into the 2024 construction season. The Sprigg and Bertling Street projects will be completed in 2024 & 2025. The goal will be to get both projects designed and ready for construction and then evaluate the condition of each to prioritize. If funding is available in 2024, the City may be able to move forward with both Sprigg & Bertling for the 2024 construction season. Visit cityofcape.org/streets for a full list of street projects!
