Cape Fire Department During the night, Friday, Novemb…
During the night, Friday, November 12th, 2021, the Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to back-to-back fires in two vacant homes. Additionally, we responded to a possible fire in an apartment complex that ended up being a malfunctioning furnace. The two residential structure fires are under investigation and both houses are considered uninhabitable. No victims were found in either of the houses and no injuries were reported. Both fires were able to be contained in approximately 20 minutes, with several more hours of overhaul (making sure the fires were completely out) and cleanup of all equipment. We are very thankful for all of the surrounding fire departments that assisted us in fire suppression and also providing coverage for additional emergencies in the city during this busy night: East County Fire Protection District, Gordonville Fire Protection District, Jackson Fire Rescue, Scott City Fire Department, North County Fire Protection District, Fruitland Area Fire Protection District, Millersville Rural Fire Protection District, Whitewater Fire Protection District, Delta Fire Protection District, and Chaffee Fire Department.
